Global Campaign – 27.11.2014

What if women could control HIV prevention? This was a major question in the 1990s, when condoms provided the most reliable and realistic way to prevent HIV infection. Despite huge biomedical, many women are still not able to protect themselves against infection because of barriers such as stigma, partner violence & limited access to services. The Global Campaign for Microbicides (GCM) was set up to answer this question by developing a prevention technology --– such as a protective vaginal gel.

Thatcher & Aids – 04.11.2014

Thatcher had AIDS: A personal gay gallop through HIV in the UK All histories of epidemics are either admonitions, laments or warnings. This account of HIV in the UK is all three as Ford Hickson weaves his own life & academic outputs with memories and documents from the 1980s through to the 2010s. Working within a small research team (Sigma Research) and multiple community partners, Ford has led England's national HIV prevention needs assessment among gay and bisexual men since 1997.
